A Second Day on the Balance

I took the train down to Kamakura, a coastal town with a huge amount of temples and shrines including Daibutsu (Big Buddha), Japan's world famous Buddha statue. The town felt like a sort of condensed suburb, but still felt old fashioned. Every house had a great flower garden and despite the amount of tourists, it was very quiet (as are many places in Japan, even Tokyo).

I took a 3 hour long hike through a steep and muddy trail. There was no civilization in sight, which was strange because I was only 40 minutes from Tokyo.

Climbing up a great ridge, there were steps made out of the roots of giant trees. The dirt had eroded to reveal a vast network of roots. There were lots of flowers on the trail, but also lots of spiders (even in the flowers).

With tired feet, I returned to the Tokyo areas of Harajuku and Shinjuku. Harajuku is the fashion district while Shinjuku is the skyscraper district. It was a Saturday night, so both were packed.
